If your credit card machine is frozen or is not working, rebooting the machine should resolve the issue.
To do this, hold down the yellow and .,#* buttons on the keypad until you see 'Reboot in Progress' on the screen. Afterwards, the machine will reboot. Once the Goodwill logo and advertisement banners repopulate on the terminal, the credit card is back
NOTE: Do not, for any reason, unplug the credit card machine and move it to a different register. This could break the machine,
